Hutcheon Mearns are partnered with an upstream oil and gas E&P company to source a Tax Compliance Accountant for their UK business. This position will join their high performing tax team on a staff basis. Hybrid working is on offer as well as a supporting culture and a friendly team environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparation of Corporation Tax returns and computations for UK companies. Preparation of all necessary data, examination of technical issues, computation of tax liability using specialist software
- Filing corporation Tax Returns with HMRC, assisting addressing questions from HMRC, ultimately ensuring that liability agreed
- Researching/legislative checking of selected tax technical matters relevant to tax return responsibilities
- Preparing tax provisioning for inclusion in the statutory accounts of the Corporate UK legal entities in UK
- Preparing the UK group relief and UK corporate interest restriction position of the group
- Examination of technical issues and analysis of tax legislation to determine the appropriate presentation of specific transactions
- Preparation of Petroleum Revenue Tax returns with all associated compliance
- Assisting with Tax compliance as required
- Assistance with UK statutory tax provisions
- Working with and supporting other members of the wider UK tax team
- Preparation of Energy Profits Levy calculations for compliance and UK statutory reporting
- Supporting across wider tax function as required
- Any other reasonable duty as per instruction by your Manager
- Assisting with Tax advisory as required
Background and Experience
- Experience in relevant corporate or accountancy firm environment or working in the oil and gas industry
- Strong accounting skillset with understanding of complex accounting
- Tax practitioner or strong background in accounting with a willingness to learn taxation
- Professional taxation or accounting qualification, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT or ATT (or working towards)
- Degree qualified (preferably Accounting, Finance, Law (desired but not essential)
- Upstream Corporation Tax and PRT experience (desired but not essential)
- Strong analytical ability
- Attention to detail and a desire for precision
- Highly numerate
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of UK Upstream tax software desirable, together with knowledge of SAP (preferable but not essential)
- Ability to learn and develop understanding of accounting systems in order to navigate them
- Strong Excel skills
- Pro-active, driven, ability to take ownership and is a supportive and congenial team player
- Desire to grow and learn in a supportive fast paced dynamic work environment
