Hutcheon Mearns is delighted to be exclusively engaged by a well-known Scottish business to appoint a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant, based in Glasgow. The business has grown significantly, both organically and via acquisition, in recent years. As a result, it is looking to add a talented, qualified accountant to its high calibre finance team. 

The Opportunity

The role of Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is a newly created position and will report into the Group Financial Controller. The role holder will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely monthly and annual financial results to subsidiaries and the group. Moreover, the successful individual will be expected to continuously assess internal controls and financial systems to ensure they remain fit for purpose - leading and managing improvement projects as necessary. 

The role will include: 

  • Preparing and reviewing consolidated and subsidiary financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with FRS102 
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes for a timely financial reporting 
  • Generate management reports, highlighting key financial metrics and variances 
  • Ensure compliance with UK statutory regulations, HMRC guidelines, and industry standards 
  • Prepare and submit statutory accounts and coordinate with external auditors to meet audit requirements 
  • Oversee internal controls over financial reporting, mitigating risks and ensuring best practices
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy 
  • Manage the fixed asset register and play a key role in capital investment projects 
  • Support the financial planning process, partnering with the FP&A and Commercial teams 
  • Work with departmental managers to ensure financial reporting supports decision-making 
  • Liaise with tax team for compliance and provide insights to senior management for strategic initiatives 
  • Mentor junior staff, promoting development and maintaining high standards within the team 
  • Manage team workload to meet deadlines without compromising quality 
  • Present financial reports to stakeholders, addressing queries and providing insights 

Background and Experience

We are keen to speak to individuals with the following profile:

  • Hold an accountancy qualification (ICAS, ACCA, ICAEW etc.) 
  • Trained in accountancy practice environment - audit or business advisory (desirable) 
  • Have 1 to 3 years post qualified experience (either in audit or financial reporting roles) 
  • Have experience of group consolidated financial reporting 
  • have good knowledge of FRS102 / UK GAAP
  • Have strong MS Excel skills with an ability to manage large data sets 
  • Experience of operating ERP software 
  • Have strong communication and presentation skills and experience 

Package and Benefits

  • £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (depending on PQE)

The office is based in Glasgow and is easily accessible via public transport.
