Hutcheon Mearns are supporting a successful E&P business to source a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to join their Aberdeen team on a 9 month contract basis. This role plays an important role within the Financial Reporting Team to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of key sections of the monthly, quarterly and year end group financial reporting and play a key role in the integration of the new assets following the business combination and implementation of any new/ additional reporting requirements for areas for which responsible.

The Opportunity

  • Complete and accurate accounting and reporting for Revenue and Hydrocarbon Inventory, PPE and Financial Instruments and Hedge accounting on a monthly and quarterly basis, within required deadlines, providing in-depth variance analysis as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance on all disclosures in the quarterly financial statements for areas for which responsible
  • Focal point for external auditors for areas for which responsible, ensuring all audit requests are responded to promptly, sufficiently and within required deadlines
  • Ensure adherence to internal control requirements, providing documented evidence of own work and reviews performed
  • Take lead role for integration of new assets following the business combination and implementation of new/ additional reporting requirements for areas for which responsible
  • Provide support for writing of technical accounting papers
  • Provide support for the preparation of legal entity statutory financial statements
  • Continually challenge existing process and controls, taking a lead role in driving continuous improvement in the output and performance of the FR Team

Background and Experience

  • Strong experience in a finance role, including strong technical accounting experience ideally in upstream oil and gas industry
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements preferred
  • Leading and managing the implementation of financial accounting and reporting changes/ improvement projects
  • Team management/ supervision and staff development
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant, ideally with an audit background
  • Strong team ethic with experience of developing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups to ensure successful delivery
  • Proactive, ability to take ownership of tasks/ issues and drive through to completion
  • Desire to deliver to the highest standard and continually seek to improve performance
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude with ability to be flexible and willingness to adapt to change
  • Excel proficient with an ability to use accounting systems for data entry and data interrogation
