Hutcheon Mearns is delighted to be engaged on the role of Project Accountant (CAPEX) for a renowned Scottish organisation based in Edinburgh. The organisation is embarking on an ambitious, 5-year investment strategy to upgrade several of its facilities and requires a highly skilled finance professional to control the finances of the project. The role is offering a competitive day rate and an initial 12 month contract term (with the possibility for extension or permanency). 

The Opportunity

The Project Accountant (CAPEX) role, will report into the Head of Finance and will be responsible for managing a CAPEX budget of c. £200 million for 2024/25. As Project Accountant (CAPEX), you will be responsible for producing monthly capital monitoring packs outlining performance and highlighting significant budgetary variances. Moreover, you will be expected to manage the fixed assets and leases for the business - including all technical advice and reporting - as well as producing and reviewing business cases for CAPEX and lease costs.

Background and Experience 

Our client is keen to speak to individuals with the following profile: 

  • Qualified accountant with a recognised professional accountancy body 
  • Experience of capital budget management and fixed asset accounting 
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS16 is sought after but not essential 
  • Strong technical accounting background 
  • Strong data skills (MS Excel) with an eye for process improvement 
  • Ability to influence and build relationships with project managers and other non-finance stakeholders
