Head of Finance

Hutcheon Mearns is recruiting, on an exclusive basis, for a Head of Finance role to take ownership of the strategic and operational delivery of financial services in a prominent Scottish organisation, based in Perth.  You will join a mission-led organisation and play a key role in the local leadership team, with responsibility across the finance and payroll functions, a team of 13 people.  

As an experienced finance professional, you will have a proven track record of overseeing operational finance functions, hands-on technical accounting knowledge in addition to demonstrating the credibility and gravitas to influence real change.  

The Opportunity

This is a pivotal role within the organisation and one which will drive change to achieve organisational outcomes.  Within this role you will; 

  • Develop, embed and lead the organisation's Finance strategy, aligning it with organisational goals in the face of budget pressures 
  • Be accountable for - and hands-on, where required, for annual budgets, management accounts, forecasts, cashflow forecasts and financial returns
  • Lead the annual statutory accounts process including liaising with external auditors 
  • Encourage and promote income generation across the organisation 
  • Ensure robust financial controls and processes are in place to mitigate financial risk and ensure financial sustainability 
  • Lead, develop and sustain a positive working culture, collaborative working and ensure excellent customer service from the Finance team 

The Candidate

We are seeking an individual with: 

  • A recognised professional accounting qualification (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience leading a finance function in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Strong knowledge of financial legislation and ideally public sector funding principles
  • Experience managing audits, reporting cycles and internal financial controls
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills and experience building high performance teams
  • Strategic mindset coupled with strong operational awareness and delivery 
  • The ability to communicate financial information to financial and non-financial audiences

  • 8.45 - 4.45pm Monday to Friday (35 hours)
  • Hybrid working (60% of time on site)
  • Salary £65k - £71k, reviewed annually
