Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be supporting a Dundee based charity, recruiting for a Head of Finance to lead on the strategic and operational finance for the organisation.  This organisation offers services supporting families across Scotland and although the head office is in Dundee, the job role can be undertaken on a flexible basis with hybrid working.  As the Finance lead, your role will involve reporting to the Board, supporting the CEO and supporting Service Managers.  This is a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Accountant to make their mark by joining this charity, ensuring financial integrity and strong financial management.  

The Opportunity

You will be responsible to the CEO and the Board and will take the lead on preparing budget and financial projections, monthly management accounts and cashflow management.  As a charity with a circa £3.5mill t/o, you will play both a hands-on financial management role as well as leading interactions with external stakeholders such as Trustees and funders.  You will liaise with service managers on budget monitoring, ensuring there are robust processes in place for monitoring and managing spend.  

Responsibilities in the role will include; 

  • Month-end processes and production of monthly management accounts including variance analysis and presenting to Board and and Finance 
  • Update and oversee finance processes and accounting systems (Xero) 
  • Support service managers to monitor budget and spend, in particular labour costs 
  • Manage and oversee the work of 3 Finance staff 
  • Account reconciliations 
  • Project accounting - preparing information on project spend for appropriate stakeholders 
  • Preparation of consolidated financial accounts and liaising with external auditors 
  • Acting as main point of contact for Accountants, Auditors, Bankers and HMRC 
  • Oversee payroll 
  • Prepare and submit VAT return for trading subsidiary 

Background and Experience

The successful candidate will have a relevant accounting qualification (CA/ACCA/ACA/CIMA) and an understanding of Third Sector finance.  You must have experience working with a Cloud based accounting system such as Xero, Quickbooks and Sage.  You will have a positive, flexible attitude and be someone who can manage a varied workload.  Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and an ability to present financial information to non-finance personnel, are essential to this post. 

Flexibility and Benefits 

  • Salary offered up to £50,000, dependant on candidate experience and qualifications. 
  • 35 hours per week (part-time working will be considered) 
  • 32 days holiday including public holidays
  • 3% employee, 7% employer pension contribution
