Financial Accountant

Hutcheon Mearns are working in partnership with an internationally respected organisation in Dundee to appoint a Financial Accountant to join their finance operations.  A purpose-led charitable organisation that supports impactful international projects, this organisation has a global reach and a local focus.  Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant role will lead key technical financial processes within the finance function.   This is an excellent opportunity within an organisation that offers highly competitive terms and conditions.  This position would suit a Qualified Accountant with strong experience of statutory accounts preparation and ideally experience / knowledge of charity / not-for-profit structures.  

The Opportunity

As Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for the full statutory accounts process and act as a key contact for the external audit.  You'll also lead on cashflow forecasting, balance sheet management and VAT compliance and will, within the wider finance team, ensure the organisation remains financially compliant.   You will work closely with the senior finance leadership team and have the opportunity to build relationships across all departments - supporting a culture of financial understanding and strong governance. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Prepare statutory financial statements and audit working papers
  • Liaise directly with external auditors 
  • Manage month-end processes across purchase, sales, payroll and nominal ledger
  • Maintain and forecast cashflow and oversee treasury processes 
  • Submit quarterly VAT returns, including handling partial exemption 
  • Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and manage the Fixed Asset Register 
  • Providing financial reporting for statutory bodies
  • Assist in financial compliance improvement initiatives 

The Candidate

You will be a Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACMA/CA) or part-qualified and studying to achieve your professional qualification. You will have strong experience in preparing statutory accounts, perhaps gained from time working in professional practice or within an organisation.  You will be proficient in financial systems, particularly Microsoft Excel.  Detail driven with clear and confident communication skills, you will also have a collaborative mindset and the ability to work with non-finance stakeholders.  Experience in charity environment would be advantageous but not essential.
