Finance Manager | Up to £60,000 | East Perthshire

Hutcheon Mearns, a part of Cooper Parry, is delighted to support a progressive, multi-entity family farming business in appointing a senior finance professional in the role of Finance Manager.  As the business continues to develop and diversify, there is now a requirement for a dedicated finance professional to lead the finance function and support the owners in making informed, data-driven decisions. 

This role will take responsibility for delivering accurate, timely financial information across several business entities, managing cashflow and banking, developing internal processes and modernising systems.  Working closely with the Directors, you will create a robust finance structure that supports future growth while allowing key stakeholders to focus on their areas of operational expertise.  This organisation, easily commutable from Dundee, has a positive, family business culture and a varied and interesting business model.  

The Job Opportunity  

You will oversee financial processing and ensure smooth day to day operations.  This is a fantastic opportunity to add value to a forward-thinking business (circa £15mill revenue), in a role you can make your own.  You will support and oversee an experienced Bookkeeper and your role will involve: 

  • Managing cashflow across entities
  • Balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Preparing month-end reports and analysis 
  • Processing supplier invoices, preparing sales invoices 
  • Reconciliations - bank, goods in/out, seasonal 
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Liaise with external Accountants for year-end accounts
  • Produce enterprise costings, profitability analysis and financial returns 
  • Maintain and update the Fixed Asset register 

In addition to the core responsibilities, you will provide support to the Directors by planning investment timing, identify opportunity for tax efficiencies and reviewing and enhancing financial processes. 

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded finance professional who can take ownership of the finance function and operate with confidence and autonomy.  You will have excellent communication skills and will build strong working relationships with office and operational colleagues.  You will ideally be a Qualified Accountant (Qualified by Experience will also be considered) and experience in the agriculture sector would be advantageous but not essential.  

You will have proficiency in Sage and Microsoft Excel and have strong experience in a hands-on role, preferably within an SME environment.  You will have a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a sector where no two days are the same!

As this is a new position, there is flexibility with regards to hours worked and working pattern.  You will be offered a hybrid working arrangement with some days in the office, and opportunity to work from home.  Start and finish times can be flexible and while this is envisaged as a full-time role, flexible working patterns will be considered for the right candidate.  You will work in a family business where the culture is that of a close-knit team of loyal employees.
