EMEA Controller

Hutcheon Mearns is delighted to support a global, market-leading organisation in their search for an experienced EMEA Controller to join their established and dynamic finance function.  This is a rare opportunity to take on a key leadership role with a base in Dundee, within a complex, multinational business at the forefront of its industry. 

The Opportunity

This senior role reports to the Global Controller (US based) and the Senior Finance Director for the EMEA region (Dundee based).  As a key financial leader, this individual will shape corporate governance practices, establish financial processes that strengthen internal controls and partner closely with site leadership to optimise financial performance.  The role also involves ensuring regional execution of audit programmes, improving management reporting systems and implementing financial process efficiencies across multiple jurisdictions.  Additionally the EMEA Controller will provide strategic support for M&A activity and drive improvements in shared service operations, particularly within accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger functions.

This is a hands-on role that demands a technically strong leader with deep expertise in US GAAP, IFRS and management reporting, along with the ability to work across cultures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.  

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a key financial steward, ensuring compliance with corporate governance, regulatory requirements, and internal controls
  • Oversee timely and accurate financial reporting in line with US GAAP, IFRS and local statutory requirements 
  • Meet corporate reporting requirements including monthly reporting, quarterly reporting, year-end and tax reporting including consolidation and review of financial information from EMEA locations 
  • Lead regional execution of the audit programme, ensuring compliance, identifying risks and implementing improvements 
  • Partner with senior leadership to drive financial performance, tax efficiency and operational improvements
  • Establish strong relationships with external auditors, shared service centres, and internal finance teams to enhance process efficiencies
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to regional finance teams, ensuring best practices and ongoing development 
  • Support M&A activities, compliance initiatives and strategic financial projects 

The Candidate 

The successful applicant will be an accomplished finance leader with a strong track record in financial control, compliance and business partnership within a multinational organisation.  Key attributes include; 

  • Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) with a deep understanding of IFRS, US GAAP and statutory reporting 
  • Strong post-qualifying experience (10 years+) and ideally a blend of Top Tier practice firm experience and industry exposure in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to navigate complex financial structures across multiple jurisdictions 
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle / Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Strong influencing skills, commercial acumen and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse teams and cultures 
  • A pro-active, hands-on approach with a commitment to driving continuous improvement
  • Willingness to travel, (up to 30%) across domestic and international locations
