Corporate Accountant - E&P

Hutcheon Mearns are supporting a successful E&P business to source a Corporate Accountant to join their Aberdeen team. The successful candidate will report the actual financial performance of the business into monthly/quarterly management reports along with annual financial reporting requirements and filings for the Group.

This is a broad role which will allow the successful candidate to gain great experience and develop new skills. Working as part of a friendly and supportive team with a compressed working week is also on offer!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assume responsibility for the external audit process, including planning the process internally and communicating with the wider team their responsibilities
  • Preparation of the year end and half year reporting to parent company, including communicating with parent company finance team directly
  • Preparation of the UK Statutory financial statements, for both the Group and also subsidiary companies and ensuring audit of these companies are undertaken without problems and/or delay to meet any statutory or internal deadlines
  • Supporting and assisting in any group reorganization/restructuring plans, liaising with Tax team and Legal team in the process
  • Preparing and booking any specific and/or unusual account entries for example acquisition accounting, equity investment accounting, G&A re-allocations and intercompany interest
  • Keeping up to date with accounting technical changes and keeping the wider team up to date on any changes that will impact the finance team
  • Point of contact for accounting technical issues being faced by the team
  • Supporting in the monitoring of actual results versus plan results in relation to G&A and other non-producing asset areas of the financial statements
  • Supporting the team and the team manager in the month end and year end close process
  • Key contributor to annual budget exercise for G&A and corporate inputs (eg DD&A, hedging)
  • Co-ordinate annual G&A audit
  • Reviewing the weekly payment run as well as daily approval of on-line bank payments
  • Reviewing monthly UK payroll for changes before finalised with outsourced provider
  • Hyperion upload for UK actuals. Completing any ad-hoc tasks as and when required to support the Financial Controller

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Degree educated and the holder of a professional finance qualification
  • Finance experience including exposure to the upstream oil and gas industry, including knowledge of producing assets, exploration activity and operated/non operated activity
  • Detailed knowledge of International Accounting Standards, UK GAAP, and preparation of primary accounting statements
  • Competent in accounting software package and strong excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and meet tight deadlines
  • Display high standards of ethical and professional behaviour, consistent with the company’s values and business conduct policies
  • Experience of managing a team
