The Opportunity

Hutcheon Mearns are currently supporting a range of well-established and forward-thinking accountancy practices across Scotland in the search for experienced audit professionals. Whether you're an Audit Senior looking to step up, an Audit Manager ready for a broader portfolio, or an Audit Director seeking a route to partnership – there are exciting opportunities available that align with your career goals.

Firms range from leading large practices to independent Scottish firms, offering diverse client portfolios across sectors such as owner-managed businesses, charities, financial services, public sector, and corporate groups.


Roles Available

We are hiring across multiple levels:

  • Audit Senior

  • Audit Assistant Manager

  • Audit Manager

  • Audit Senior Manager

  • Audit Director/Partner


Key Responsibilities

Depending on level, responsibilities may include:

  • Leading audits from planning through to completion

  • Managing client relationships and liaising with stakeholders

  • Reviewing and supervising the work of junior staff

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements in line with UK GAAP and IFRS

  • Contributing to internal audit methodology and technical development

  • Business development and tendering for new audit clients (Manager+)

  • Coaching and developing junior members of the team

  • Managing fee targets, budgets, and risk processes

  • Partnering with directors and partners to shape strategy (Director+ level)


Background and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (CA / ACCA / ACA or equivalent) or minimum 18-24 months experience 

  • Recent or current experience within audit in an accountancy practice

  • Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing standards

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Proven ability to manage and develop team members

  • For Senior Manager and Director roles: experience with business development, complex audits, or niche sectors is advantageous
