Hutcheon Mearns are partnering with an oil and gas explorer, developer and producer which operates in a variety of locations around the world. Listed on the London Stock Exchange, this business has a flexible and balanced exploration portfolio and is going through an exciting phase of development.

Due to a recent international acquisition, the business is looking to add an experienced Analyst to their high performing team. This is a key role and will be the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all budgeting, reporting and analysis for agreed operated and non-operated Upstream assets, including consolidated views.

Responsibilities:

Budgeting, Reporting and Analysis:

  • Responsible for the provision of complete and accurate budgets, forecasts and variance analysis for agreed operated and non-operated Upstream assets, working to agreed timetables on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Ensure that variances (actuals versus budgets/ forecasts and actuals vs AFEs) are fully explained and communicated to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for Opex cost analysis and KPI monitoring (e.g., $/ BOE), adopting a continuous improvement approach and recommending changes to KPIs, where appropriate, in line with asset Lifecyle stage
  • Review monthly timewriting versus expectations for areas of responsibility and ensure quarterly approvals for operated assets are completed to timetable
  • Responsible for the preparation of presentations/ summaries of information (manpower/ timewriting/ costs) for various internal (asset reviews/ budget reviews/ QPRs/ ad hoc requests) and external (TCM/ FCM/ OCM) meetings
  • Ensure financial requirement compliance of Licences, Joint Operating Agreements, Production Sharing Agreements or Contracts, and other relevant agreements or legislation as required
  • Review and update, where necessary, policies, processes and procedures documents and recommend changes, where appropriate

Systems and Processing

  • Actively assist with the review, implementation, maintenance and development of financial systems, procedures and controls necessary to efficiently and effectively report and analyse activities for operated and non-operated joint ventures in an accurate, relevant and timely manner
  • Ensure that new assets are appropriately integrated into operational reports, reporting processes and schedules

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Accountant with demonstrable experience in the upstream production environment, ideally also having had exposure to exploration projects. You will have significant Joint Venture accounting experience, exceptional reporting and analysis skills and strong systems and data manipulation experience. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to work on your own initiative, taking ownership of all aspects of your role.
